Email gmail setting preference

Email Setting preference

Now that you have opened your first email account with Gmail, the next step is to set up some of your email preferences. If you have stumbled across this article, you may wish to see the article before this "opening your first gmail account"

1. In the upper right corner start by clicking on the "gear icon"

2. On the next screen click "See all settings" that's the area where you're going to set up some of your preferences and keep your gmail screen a bit more easier to understand.

3. We're going to go step by step through the top row of settings:

General | Labels | Inbox | Accounts and Import | Filters and Blocked Addresses | Forwarding and POP/IMAP | Add-ons | Chat and Meet |  Advanced | Offline | Themes

4. Click on the words "General" (notice the tab your shown is mostly likely a blue color)
Under the general tab scroll down till you see: "Maximum page size" This is where you can set your preferences to the amount of emails you wish to see in your "inbox".  My suggestion is to set this to "100"

Scroll down to "Undo Send" the "set the Send cancellation period" to "30" seconds. What this does is give you the chance to unsend your email if you wish in the first 30 seconds you want to undo the send. BUT, maybe a rule to adopt is: Write your email and wait at least four hours before sending and read it over one last time. If for anything just to check spelling as auto correct can get you into trouble.

5. "Save Changes" is at the bottom, but each time you click the "Save changes" you have to start over again at the "gear icon" or you can save at the end when you get to the last tab. REMEMBER when you are done chick the "save changes" or you'll be doing this again till you do.

6. Show in label list:

I want you to click to "show" (it will be in black)
Drafts
All Mail
Spam
Trash
Where you see the "Create new label" That tab is for you to create your own label. You can come back to that also through the "gear icon"

7. Remember you can change this setting anytime you want by clicking on the "gear icon" in the upper right corner.
Send a message

Where you see the "Create new label" That tab is for you to create your own label. You can come back to that also through the "gear icon"

8. Inbox tab

Inbox type: Default

Categories:
uncheck theses boxes:
Social
Promotions
Updates
Forums

What you're doing is having all the email show in one location. If your preferences is to split them up then it can be done through the gear icon in the top right of your email program, but for now let's uncheck them.

9. Accounts and Import

This is a preference setting. This is where you can reset your password and account settings. Be sure to read or watch our video on password protections.

Change account settings:
Change password
Change password recovery options
Other Google Account settings

10. Filters and Blocked Addresses

Nothing to do here for now but take a look at the page and remember it's here for you.

11. Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab:

Forwarding;
My suggestion is two things. consider forwarding your email to a backup email address if you have one. If not, read or watch our video on multiply email address.
If you decide to forward your email also keep your settings to "keep Gmail's copy in the inbox" note: This is incase you need to respond to an incoming email from that email address.

12. Add-ons

At this time there's nothing to do unless you have experience in this area.

If you made changes remember:
NOTE: "Save Changes" is at the bottom. but each time to click the "Save chances" you have to start over again at the "gear icon" or you can save at the end when you get to the last tab. REMEMBER when you are done chick the "save changes" or you'll be doing this again till you do.

13. Click on General Tab

Scroll to bottom and click on Save Changes
Your gmail will refresh and take you to your inbox page.
Save this tab to your computer and you can also download the Gmail app to your phone and start sending and receiving emails from your phone or laptop.

NOTE: "Save Changes" is at the bottom, but each time you click the "Save Changes" you have to start over again at the "gear icon" or you can save at the end when you get to the last tab. REMEMBER when you are done click the "save changes" or you will be doing this again till you do.

You have now set up your gmail preferences. At anytime you can come back to the gear icon and change your settings. It is a good idea to check your setting from time to time to see if any new updates have been added or a setting has changed.

14. Click on the inbox (left side) you are now looking at your first email from Google.

Save this tab to your computer so you can access your email easier. You can also download the Gmail app to your phone and start sending and receiving emails from your phone  or laptop.

BIG GIANT NOTE FOR YOU.

If you decide to check your email from a friends phone, computer, or anything that you do not own, NEVER save the password or sign-in to that device or you just gave someone access to your email till you change your password.
